when it rains..

gupainting by: Gustave Caillebotte

It has been a very crispy-cold, windy, wet week so far. I obviously love the sunshine we've had over the past few weeks, but this grey-ice-cold has it's own appealing set of qualities. Being from a desert in Africa, it's no surprise that I appreciate the cold-rain-overcast combination once in a while. People here complain endlessly if 'the sun don't shine'.

Personally, I like wrapping-up all cozy in coats and boots, and watching people run around in the rain between their engagements. I like how buzzingly-full and attractive the warm coffee shops become. The unpleasant wet coldness gives everyone more energy...we're all a bit more hurried, a bit more excited, all rosy-cheeked and bright-eyed.... in such unpleasant wet coldness.

There is, as always, light at the end of the tunnel. The weatherman speaks hopefully of sunshine this weekend. Of course this too shall pass. Why bother complaining about the weather? Sometimes it's all anyone can talk about. I find the topic both pointless and ever-so dull! :)
